Thurston’s Big Weekend: 25th and 26th September

Further to the announcement in last month’s newsletter, here is some background information and a progress report!

In view of the lifting of many Covid-19 restrictions and the success of the vaccine roll-out, The Friends of Thurston Library are now working with the Parish Council to provide some community events. It is hoped that these will help to welcome newcomers to the village and also be enjoyed by existing residents.

First on our list is to have a Big Weekend at the end of September, when we can hold various events around the village. We will concentrate on outdoor activities to make sure that everyone is as safe as possible.

The plan is for the weekend to be fun for all ages, and help to raise our spirits, after such a difficult time being isolated from family, friends and neighbours.

Since June, we have been in touch with several organisations and are pleased to have received so much support!

Here are the details so far:

  • On Saturday 25th September the Friends of the Library will run a Treasure trail around the village that is suitable for families.
  • On Sunday 26th September, Thurston Preschool and the Friends of Thurston Primary Academy will organise a Sale Trail. There will be an opportunity for you to register your interest nearer the time.
  • New Green Centre, the Cavendish Hall, St Peter’s Church and Thurston W.I. are all keen to get involved.

If your organisation, club or business is interested in being part of this event, or if you simply want more information, please get in touch with Anne O’Connell (anneocon369@gmail.com) or ask at the library. We look forward to working with many more village organisations to make this a very memorable weekend!
