Music, Reading & Carols for Advent with music for oboe, strings, organ & harpsichord, followed by mulled wine & mince pies.
The season of Advent has been set aside as a time of preparation for Christmas since at least the last half of the 6th century. Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, meaning “coming.” Advent begins the church year, starting four Sundays before Christmas. In contemporary times, as Christmas has become increasingly commercialised, our observance of Advent is important because it gives us the space to prepare for the true meaning of Christmas. Advent is a time for self-examination and asking for forgiveness as the church prepares to celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas.
At our Advent Carol Service we celebrate the start of Advent with a sequence of readings, prayers and music focussing on the Advent theme of light in darkness. Please join us for Mulled Wine after the service. We look forward to welcoming you to this and other services throughout Advent and Christmas.
